Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity for play cafe owners to spread love while boosting their bottom line. Whether it’s hosting a parent-child craft workshop, offering a “Date Night Drop-Off” service, or creating Valentine-themed play dates and retail bundles, there are plenty of creative ways to celebrate the holiday with your community. In this blog, we’ll explore 16 SWEET, fun, and profitable ideas that will not only generate revenue but also create meaningful experiences for your customers. Let’s make this Valentine’s Day your best one yet!

1. “Spread the Love” Contest

  • Run a Valentine’s Day promotion or contest asking your audience to share what they love about your space or ask for reviews to “spread the love”
  • Consider choosing a contest winner based on how many “hearts” each shared photo gets on social media for even more opportunity for organic reach while also tying into the Valentines theme.

2. Coffee Sleeve “Love Notes”

  • If you have a cafe, leave a basket of coffee sleeves out and ask customers to write a kind message on a sleeve and put it into a basket. Just something simple like, “you’re doing a great job”, or “you are enough”. Then, when baristas make drinks, they can grab a sleeve from the bin and put it onto the next customer's drink. This can create a train of positivity that will leave your customers feeling valued and special, and will work towards that sense of community in our space that we are all striving for.
  • Have you ever heard the phrase, “you won’t remember what they said, but you’ll remember how they made you feel”? Well, wouldn’t it be so nice to leave that lasting warm and fuzzy impression on your customers? They may not remember what their sleeve said but they will remember that they felt positive and cared for in your space.

3. Words of Affirmation Craft

  • Since we catered to young children who were not yet writing or reading yet, the coffee sleeve thing worked for us, but if you cater to slightly older children, you can consider doing something similar but with your littlest visitors.
  • Kailynn from Monkey Around Play Cafe in Montana, for example, set out paper hearts and had kids write sweet words of affirmation onto them, which she then hung up on her window. I thought this was creative and such a great example of spreading kindness wherever you go.

4. Mom Speed Dating

  • Give your customers the opportunity to find new mom or parent friends
  • Make the event adult-only on a weeknight or offer supervised play so parents can focus
  • We gave each person a number upon registration, and that number matched a chair when they arrived.
  • We had tables of 4 and had people shuffle every 10-15 minutes to sit with new peple
  • We gave people prompts and fun games to play at their tables AND provided a comfy seating area to the side with adult coloring books for people that were a little more introverted
  • You can include QR codes on nametags to follow each other on social media
  • Gives people a chance to meet new people without having to worry about being left out or having to mingle which can create social anxiety
  • One of our most successful events!

5. Parent-Child Valentine's Craft Workshop

  • Host a crafting session where parents and kids create Valentine's Day cards, decorations, or keepsakes together.
  • Charge for admission and include all supplies. Charge more and include snacks and drinks or make the price more affordable and instead offer an option to purchase snacks or drinks during the event.

6. Valentine's Tea Party

  • Host a themed tea party for kids (and their parents). Include finger foods, themed decorations, and story time.
  • Charge a ticket price that includes food, drink, and a small take-home gift (felt roses).

7. Family Photoshoot Sessions

  • Increase the value of your valentine’s event with a photo session!
  • Partner with a local photographer to offer mini Valentine's Day-themed photo sessions.
    • TIP: make the photo background neutral so the photos can be used year-round, not just Valentine's day
  • Charge families for the photoshoot package and offer optional themed playtime before or after their session.

8. Pop-Up Bakery

  • Partner with a bakery to sell heart-themed cupcakes, cookies, or other desserts in your cafe leading up to Valentine’s Day.
  • Bundle treats with gift cards or play passes for upsell opportunities.

9. Valentine's Gift Bundles

  • Curate gift bundles featuring toys, books, or locally made products available in your retail section.
  • Offer pre-packaged options for busy parents to grab and go.
  • Don’t forget the PARENTS! They need gifts too!

10. "Date Night Drop-Off" Service

  • Offer extended evening childcare services on or around Valentine's Day, giving parents a chance to enjoy a night out.
  • Provide kids with fun activities, crafts, and a meal while parents pay a flat fee for the service.
  • TIP: This is recommended only for facilities who cater to older children! Here’s why.

11. Couples Yoga + Kids Play Session

  • Host a couples’ yoga class while offering supervised playtime for their children in another room.
  • Great for spaces in the wellness niche who have an extra classroom
  • Charge for both the yoga class and childcare service.

12. Valentine’s Movie Night

  • Host an after-hours movie night with a family-friendly Valentine's Day film.
  • Sell tickets that include popcorn, drinks, and themed snacks.
  • TIP: This works great for older kiddos who have later bedtimes.

13. Couples Coffee or Brunch Date

  • Create a special Valentine’s Day brunch menu for families to enjoy together.
  • These can be a great use of non-booked party slots!
  • Great for spaces who typically do not have weekend open play as it gives working parents an opportunity to come in!

14. Heart Hunt Challenge

  • Set up a scavenger hunt where kids search for hidden hearts around the facility.
  • This can be a simple “surprise and delight” for your open play customers- no need to charge! Keep it simple!

15. DIY Bouquet Workshop

  • Partner with a local florist to host a parent-child flower-arranging workshop.
  • Charge for admission and allow participants to take their bouquets home.

16. Valentine Exchange

  • Facilitate a virtual or in-person Valentine's exchange among kids who visit your cafe.
  • You can encourage families to bring in their leftover valentines to put in the community bin for kiddos to take from on their way out!
  • Include admission with optional themed goodie bags available for purchase.

Valentine’s Day is a wonderful chance to show your community some love while giving your business a boost. By offering creative and engaging events, services, and promotions, you can make the holiday special for families while strengthening customer loyalty and increasing revenue. Whether you try one of these ideas or combine a few, the key is to focus on creating memorable experiences that your customers will appreciate and want to come back for. Have fun spreading the love this Valentine’s Day—and don’t forget to share your success stories!
